There are a growing number of couples that cannot have children due to a fertility problem and they have to resort to an egg, sperm or embryo donation to get a chance at a pregnancy. Now you can help other women to get pregnant by becoming egg donor at Barcelona IVF

What is egg donation?

Egg donation is the assisted reproduction treatment where eggs from a donor are fertilised with the sperm from the partner or a donor, in a laboratory.

What is the right profile to become an egg donor?

The egg donors must be young women aged between 18 and 35 years old, with good physical and mental health.

Can the donor’s identity be revealed to the recipient?

No, egg donation is anonymous in Spain. Through anonymity, the identities of the donor and the recipient of the eggs is protected. It is allowed though to give some general information such as your physical characteristics, blood type and age. It is really important to stress that the Law is always enforced and the privacy of everyone involved is respected.

What steps do I have to follow to donate my eggs?

In order to become an egg donor, you will have to go through a study process where a series of additional tests need to be performed in order to prove you are a healthy person physically and mentally.

These tests are, among others:

  • Personal and family history study
  • Psychological evaluation
  • General and gynecological examination
  • Blood test to rule out other blood-related diseases
  • Any other genetic analyses required

Furthermore, a test will be carried out by the medical team where all characteristics of the couple will be taken into consideration to guarantee the highest possible degree of compatibility.

If any test result from the process has an altered result, you will be informed by us and we will advise you on how to proceed.

I have passed the tests to be a donor: what do I have to do now?

After passing the strict tests in order to determine your suitability as a donor, you will have to come to the clinic to start with the procedures established by the specialists.
