At Barcelona IVF , we have been helping thousands of people for many years to make the decision of a lifetime: to start a family. There are many types of families, and we have different alternatives for each of them. Specifically, in this publication we will explain some of the pregnancy search methods that we can offer to single mothers so that they can create their family.
The large growth in the number of single-parent families with single mothers in Spain
Being a single mother is one of the big issues facing millions of women without a partner. What used to be taboo is now a reality. In recent years, the number of single- parent families with single women has grown by 31% and continues to increase rapidly.
Assisted reproduction treatments for single-parent families
First, we present the simplest procedure: artificial insemination with donor sperm. This technique attempts to imitate natural fertilization by placing a previously selected sperm sample inside the uterus. This sample is obtained from a sperm bank. To carry out the insemination, ovarian stimulation is carried out beforehand to guarantee the development of an egg with the maximum implantation capacity. In short, this technique is painless and simple.
Secondly, there is in vitro fertilization. In this procedure, the ovaries are first hormonally stimulated and then the follicles are punctured to extract them. The extracted eggs are inseminated in the laboratory with the donor's sperm. Once the embryos have developed, the best quality ones are selected, and the embryo is transferred to the mother's uterus. The remaining good quality embryos can be frozen for future attempts.
On the other hand, if you cannot get pregnant with your own eggs, there is the option of egg donation . In this technique, a donor's eggs are fertilized with another donor's sperm in the laboratory.
But that's not all, if pregnancy has not been achieved, there is also the option of embryo adoption.
Single parenthood is not lone motherhood
We want to bring an emphasis that single parenthood is not the same as lone motherhood, as they are single mothers, but they are not necessarily alone. Single mothers usually have a social support network such as family, friends, or associations
where they support each other. Therefore, single parenthood and companionship can go hand in hand.
