Overcoming Turner Syndrome with Egg Donation: Jessica's Journey to Motherhood

24 / 11 / 2025

Turner syndrome is a chromosomal disorder that affects women and, in most cases, leads to fertility problems. Despite this, advances in assisted reproduction allow many women with this diagnosis to become mothers.

Today we share the story of Jessica, a woman with Turner syndrome who found in egg donation the opportunity to realise her desire to start a family.

An unexpected diagnosis

Jessica was born in Cape Verde and it was not until her teenage years in Switzerland that she was diagnosed with Turner syndrome. Although she did not show all the usual physical characteristics, her paediatrician became suspicious when he noticed that she was not growing normally and decided to carry out the tests that confirmed the disease.

This news marked a turning point, as she realised that she would need hormone treatments for life and that her chances of having children with her own eggs were very slim.

The desire to be a mother

For years she avoided thinking about motherhood, but when she entered into a stable relationship she knew she would have to face the reality of her fertility. After several medical consultations, they confirmed that the only option she had to achieve a pregnancy was to resort to egg donation.

The path was not an easy one to accept, but the support of her partner and the conviction of wanting to start a family helped her to take the step.

Confidence in the process

Jessica contacted several centres before making her decision. For her it was essential to feel accompanied, understood and well informed. At Barcelona IVF she found the closeness and professionalism she was looking for, as well as a team that guided her clearly through each phase of the treatment.

The coordination between her endometrial preparation and the donor's stimulation allowed everything to progress quickly and smoothly.

The arrival of his son

She travelled to Barcelona for the embryo transfer and, a few weeks later, she learned that the result had been positive. Months later, Jessica and her partner welcomed their son, the result of a process that, although emotionally challenging, turned out to be the best decision of her life.

Jessica's experience shows that Turner syndrome does not have to be the end of the dream of motherhood. Thanks to techniques such as egg donation and advances in assisted reproduction, it is possible to overcome this obstacle and achieve the dream of starting a family.

Her story is also a reminder that motherhood goes beyond genetics. What is essential is love, commitment and the strength to carry on, even in the most difficult moments.
