How is the egg donation treatment performed?

When a woman cannot achieve a pregnancy with her own eggs - due to advanced age, genetic diseases, poor quality of the eggs or low ovarian reserve after repeated failures of IVF - she can resort to an egg donation treatment.

How is the proccess?

The first step is to perform an endometrial preparation taking hormonal medication in order to achieve the optimal thickness of the endometrium, necessary for the embryo transfer. In the following days an ultrasound scan is performed to check it. Once the donor's eggs are fertilized, we need to wait that the obtained embryos go into a blastocyst state.

It is at this time that you will have to go to the clinic to find out the status of your embryos and choose the number of embryos you wish to transfer. Embryo transfer is a simple procedure that does not require anesthesia. Once the transfer has been made, you can return home and live a normal life, although intense exercises and risky activities must be avoided.

What risks are there?

The main risk of the process is multiple pregnancy in case of transferring more than one embryo, although currently (with the good results obtained with the technique of long culture to blastocyst) many couples decide to transfer a single embryo to avoid the pregnancy of twins.

Why choose Barcelona IVF to do the treatment?

In Barcelona IVF you will receive a minimum of 8 mature eggs from the donor. This, together with the technique of long blastocyst culture of the embryos, provides the best results for the procedure to be successful.

In addition, we apply the strictest selection controls to guarantee the greatest security in this process. In this sense, we do a genetic matching with the egg donor, which reduces the risk that the future child suffers from more than 250 known genetic diseases.

Don’t hesitate! At Barcelona IVF we are committed to trust, empathy and transparency, endorsing the application of medical protocols and adapting ourselves to each case.
