Endometriosis is a gynecological medical condition in which cells from inside the uterus appera in areas outside the uterine cavity, most commonly on the ovaries.
Endometriosis affects approximately six to ten percent of women of reproductive age and its symptoms include chronic pelvic pain, painful menstrual periods and infertility.
After having analysed 5586 patients with surgically confirmed endometriosis Krina Zondervan and colleagues find that a genetic locus on chromosome 7p15.2 is associated with endometriosis in women of European ancestry and this has just been publish in Nature Genetics.
