High DNA fragmentation rates have been related to a higher risk of miscarriage.

This study published in the prestigious magazine Human Reproduction has shed some light on the complicated world of the recurrent miscarriages. Until now IMSI has not been considered a useful tool in this field, but the fact that the higher the DNA fragmentation rates are the higher the risk of miscarriage is may change this. High DNA fragmentation rates has been associated to the presence of small vesicles inside the sperm’s head, vesicles that can only be seen using IMSI. Therefore is logical to accept that by performing a better selection of the sperm with the IMSI we may improve the prognosis in this group of patients.
